The Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Program for Evaluating Payment Patterns Electronic Report (PEPPER), version Q4FY15, with statistics through September 2015 is now available. PEPPER is an educational tool that summarizes provider-specific data statistics for Medicare services that may be at risk for improper payments. Providers can use the data to support internal auditing and monitoring activities.
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) provides these comparative data reports, including the PEPPER, to providers and to Medicare Administrative Contractors to support efforts to reduce Medicare fee-for-service improper payments. The PEPPER provides provider-specific Medicare data statistics for discharges and services vulnerable to improper payments. PEPPER can support a facility’s compliance efforts by identifying facility specific outliers for these risk areas. This data can help identify both potential overpayments as well as potential underpayments.
