On Monday, May 20, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) posted the MDS 3.0 RAI Manual, v1.17, containing many of the requirements that providers will need to follow to prepare for the Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM) effective October 1, 2019. New changes will be reflected in HCPro’s MDS 3.0 RAI User’s Manual.
The end of CMS’ 1,299-page document contains track changes so providers can easily follow the updates made between version v1.16 and v1.17.
Not listed in the track changes section are serious revisions to Chapter 2, Assessment for the Resident Assessment Instrument. This chapter presents the assessment types and instructions for the completion (including timing and scheduling) of the mandated OBRA and Prospective Payment System (PPS) assessments in nursing homes and the mandated PPS assessments in non-critical access hospitals with a swing bed agreement, which have changed under PDPM.
Providers will also find a new chapter, Chapter 6, Medicare Skilled Nursing Facility Prospective Payment System, detailing the new payment model language.
