Federal government doles out $333M of performance-based aid to eligible nursing homes

More than 75% of eligible nursing homes who met infection control improvement benchmarks between August and September will split federal aid totaling $333M. This will be the first round of payments from the $2B fund meant to reward nursing homes with better resident outcomes than the surrounding communities during the coronavirus pandemic.

In order to be eligible to receive the aids, nursing homes must have kept the new infection rate lower than the surrounding community infection rate, and have kept the death rate below the national mortality rate for nursing home residents infected with COVID-19.

Nursing home operators who continue to meet the criteria will have three more monthly assessments, followed by an aggregate performance payment that will be distributed in February 2021.
