The Biden administration released the “National Strategy for the COVID-19 Response and Pandemic Preparedness” on the second day in office, January 21. The strategy lays out plans to support nursing homes, and tighten infection control policies.
“HHS and CMS will strengthen Long Term Care facility guidance, funding, and requirements around infection control policies; support Long Term Care staffing levels sufficient to ensure patient safety, and support the accelerated distribution of vaccines to residential care settings,” the administration states in it’s report.
The strategy includes plans to:
- Ramp up COVID-19 testing in long-term care facilities
- Enhance online tracking of infections and vaccinations
- Conduct regular expert-led, science-based public briefings
- Provide transparency regarding COVID-19 to all healthcare settings
