Nursing homes to receive $500M in federal funding for infection control “strike team” initiative

The Biden-Harris Administration announced Friday that $2.1B will be distributed amongst healthcare entities to improve infection prevention and control activities.

In October, $500M of the initial $1.25B will go to “staff, train, and deploy strike teams to assist skilled nursing facilities, nursing homes, and other long-term care facilities with known or suspected COVID-19 outbreaks,” according to the CDC press release.

“The strike teams will allow jurisdictions to provide surge capacity to facilities for clinical services; address staffing shortages at facilities; and strengthen infection prevention and control (IPC) activities to prevent, detect, and contain outbreaks, including support for COVID-19 vaccine boosters,” the press release continues.
